O Templo e a paz
וְשָׁפַט בֵּין הַגּוֹיִם וְהוֹכִיחַ לְעַמִּים רַבִּים וְכִתְּתוּ חַרְבוֹתָם לְאִתִּים וַחֲנִיתוֹתֵיהֶם לְמַזְמֵרוֹת לֹא־יִשָּׂא גוֹי אֶל־גּוֹי חֶרֶב וְלֹא־יִלְמְדוּ עוֹד מִלְחָמָה׃
And He shall judge between the nations, And shall decide for many peoples; And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruninghooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war any more.
Um monte de aprendizado
Tanto em Isaías quanto em Miqueias, as nações não vêm conquistar nem ser conquistadas. Vêm para ser ensinadas e partem para fazer a paz. O mesmo oráculo aparece nos dois livros quase palavra por palavra.
וְיָשְׁבוּ אִישׁ תַּחַת גַּפְנוֹ וְתַחַת תְּאֵנָתוֹ וְאֵין מַחֲרִיד כִּי־פִי ה׳ צְבָאוֹת דִּבֵּר׃
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig-tree; And none shall make them afraid; For the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken.
«Não farão mal nem destruirão»
A visão do monte santo em Isaías termina num mundo cheio do conhecimento de Deus. O Rambam encerra todo o seu código de leis com este versículo.
A moderação do Rambam
O Rambam insiste que o mundo natural não mudará na era messiânica; imagens como o lobo e o cordeiro são parábolas. Os sábios ansiavam por esse tempo não para dominar outros, mas para ficar livres para a Torá e a sabedoria, sem fome nem guerra.
